The Unsinkable Molly Brown Road Rally Shifted to Later in Year
Update—April 11th, 1230P — The Arctic Alaska Region of the Sports Car Club of America was to be sanctioning the final event in the RPM Alaska's Social Rally Winter Series on Saturday, April 14th. While many teams talked of entering, sadly as of 12:30P on Wednesday, there have been no registrations. Too much sunshine and everyone has come out of hibernation? We encountered this last Spring too! Given the additional volunteer hours still needed to go into this event — from the pre-check workers time, Rallymaster re-check calcs/printing, and rally expenses—with zero registrations this event will be shifted to a Social Rally later in the year. While not yet scheduled, perhaps it would be timely to have it in September — before we ready to head out on Kim Ciccone's The Truth is Out There which runs October 13th!?
All eight regular rally teams have been encouraged throughout the winter to register for upcoming rally dates they are committed to attend. Head over to http://www.alaskascca.motorsportreg.com today and you'll find the five summer events open for your registration and our rally school awaiting your entry. You'll even find details on the Arctic Alaska Region's TireRack Teen Street Survival School-May 5th and the Snowlo Solo-May 6th, which is our first autocross of the season awaiting your Registration!
We are so very fortunate that four Rallymasters have stepped up to take on the responsibility of putting together challenging, clean (no busts) and creative Road Rallies this summer! Rallymasters want to know that teams are planning to attend and looking forward to competing on their rallies. The Summer Series of time-speed-distance rallies will begin on June 2nd with The Foot and Brain Sideshow which is just two days after our Signs of Spring Road Rally School. We look forward to having you rally with us and encourage you to register today!
Cheryl Lynn was to be the Rallymaster for the The Unsinkable Molly Brown Road Rally. She wrote, “My parents made me go to my first event back in the 1970’s and it was love at first checkpoint! The camaraderie, challenge, and creativeness—along with the adventure of hitting the open road—have lead to miles of roads while competing on rallies and while in search of rally roads from the Susitna Valley and Matanuska Valley, to the Copper River Valley, and the far reaches of the Kenai Peninsula. Many Alaska motorsport enthusiasts think of the sport of Road Rally and Cheryl as one in the same. Yes, I do still enjoy the sport, yet I encourage you to come join Alaska's Road Rally Family and expose yourself to this great sport!”
The Unsinkable Molly Brown Road Rally will be a return to a TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) Rally versus our previous winter GTA (Games-Touring-Adventure) Rallies. It will be a chance for Expert teams to bone-up on their calculating skills for that perfect arrival time at checkpoints. Novice teams will find ease at staying on course and be scored to the minute when arriving at checkpoints along the route.
While disappointed that we won't been running this event on Saturday, April 14th, it is in the can as we say and we'll take on the adventure later the year. – CL
