What do you get when you take 12 roundabouts, 11 frogs, 9 clues and 8 rally teams then mix them together on a Sunday afternoon? If it is February 19th, you got the FUBAR ReDeux Road Rally! Competitors came from near and far (Anchortown to the Mat-Su Valley) to enjoy a day working their way through the neighborhoods of Jewel Lake, Spenard and spots in between.

The object of the event was to have fun, yet beyond that competitors were urged to lose the 100 points they were assigned at the start. Staying on course seemed easy enough for most teams but some tasks proved more challenging then others. At the end of the first leg (the “Frog Leg”), Drivers and Navigators were invited to participate in a round U.R.P. — Unidentified Rally Partner and change up their teammate for someone new (something that just doesn’t happen during the regular season). Three cars were up for that, and they lost significant points for their bravery.

Embarking on leg #2, “Because They’re Round”, rallyists had to wind through nearly every roundabout in town. Dizzy, everyone came spinning into the lovely hostess Alayna’s home to enjoy a water stop and some nuts (no, not each other). Picture puzzles (with a clue for The Truth is Out There, my October 14th Rally) needed solving and a frog crossword puzzle packed more of a punch than some realized it would.

Moving onto the third leg (“Recognize the Re-Do”) teams were given a bag of tricks to help them solve the different ways the Rallymaster interpreted street names.  EX: LT Drive that is the name of our galaxy. The answer is Milky Way Drive (and lo! there was a Milky Way candy bar in the bag).

Once everyone arrived at our final destination of Ronnie Sushi, a simple Q&A about your rally partner finalized scores.  The Rallymaster was accepting bribes for the opportunity to lose points throughout the event and was glad to get some puppy kisses, ice cream bars and a transforming rhinoceros egg!

“Lots of fun!” they said giving the event an 8.6 out of 10 on the critique sheets. Everyone enjoyed their prize of a wooden nut bowl that will likely remind them of the nutty day they spent on FUBAR ReDeux.
