Stogs Nightmare Memorial Road Rally

Submitted by Rebecca on October 27, 2009 – 3:18 pmNo Comment

PRE-REGISTER TODAY AT www.motorsportreg.com

The Arctic Alaska Region, of the Sports Car Club of America, will be sanctioning the first event of it’s Winter Road Rally Season on Sunday, November 1st. The rally, which is a tribute to Michael Stogsdill, is aptly named Stogs’ Nightmare Road Rally and it will travel from Anchorage to Girdwood.

Michael was an active rallyist with the Region and passed away just prior to the 21st Mayday Mayday Road Rally in 2007. As a matter of fact, he had sent in his Registration form in weeks before (with payment) and only the Navigator information filled in—he was confident he would find a Driver for the event.

During the MDMD XXI, we had his Registration form tacked on the wall, and his rival Kathy Carlisle grabbed it as she headed out, saying “We can’t leave Michael here!” Later in the day he got transferred to the team of Brain and Foot  (Jake and Jeff), as Kathy put it, “Michael will now know what it is like to get  ‘zeros’ on a rally” — their camaraderie and banter continued to the end!

For this event, members Ann Gilley and Bill Demming are the Rallymasters, Gail Engblom will serve as Road Rally Safety Steward. Teams will complete the Odometer Check on the way to Bird Point and then onto Girdwood via the Route Instructions (I think…they wouldn’t let me peek!) and end at a local dining establishment in Girdwood not later than 230P.

We will gather at Huffman McDonald’s for this event, with a Rally School at 11:00AM, event morning Registration from 11:20-11:30AM, and the Rally Meeting for Teams at 11:40AM. You can see why we encourage online Registration! As well, should you be in need of a Driver or Navigator, we can put you together with another entrant to form a team event morning.

For Teams who have pre-registered need to be at the Huffman McDonald’s not later than 11:20AM to take care of the necessary paperwork prior to the Rally Meeting!
