3rd Annual Memorial Day Challenge

Monday May 25

Menard Sports Center - Wasilla, Wasilla, AK

The Arctic Alaska Region, of the Sports Car Club of America, will be sanctioning the third event of the 2009 Summer Solo Championship Season, on Monday May 25th, 2009. The “Memorial Day Challenge Solo” will be held at the Menard Sports Center (formerly known as the Wasilla Multi-Use Facility) in Wasilla.

Come help us honor the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice to secure the freedoms we all enjoy. Bring your friends and family out to enjoy the 3rd championship event of the season and partake in a Memorial Day tradition. Enjoy burgers and dogs hot off the grill; add in some potato salad, chips and a soda-you won’t go away hungry. Oh, and don’t forget that ice cream cone to top it all off!

The course promises to be fast and challenging, putting each driver to the test. So come on out and enjoy an Arctic Alaska Region tradition-Generous’ Memorial Day Challenge! And don’t forget to pre-register and pre-pay before 11:59PM AKDT, May 20th, to take advantage of the Region’s early registration discount.

“Memorial Day Challenge Solo” Schedule for Event Morning

7:00AM - Solo Team Arrival

8:30 AM  -  9:00 AM - Registration Hours

9:15 AM - Novice Walk-thru with Driver Training Members

9:45 AM - Mandatory Driver’s Meeting for all Competitors!!

First Car on Course Immediately Following Driver’s Meeting - The Fun Begins!

All competitors will need to come by the Registration Tent upon arrival - both those who registered online and those who choose to register at the event Monday morning. Note that Registration is only open for 30-minutes. You will then head to Tech for your vehicle inspection. It is best to arrive early so you’ll have time to settle your gear, prepare your car, get through Tech, and walk the course!

Our Driver’s Meeting will include a brief talk by the Safety Steward, and the Course Marshall will cover the responsibilities each of your will have while working corners during your “work group”! Yup, you will be working “shagging cones” opposite your “run group”, so please bring mittens, hats, layers for body warmth, sunblock/lipschitz, and foot wear for the elements.

Course design will be by Brad Generous. Lunch will be grilled burgers and hot dogs, potato salad, chips and a soda. The Region will only be providing water, coffee, and breakfast snacks in the morning for Competitors and Workers for this event.

Please arrive early to allow time to settle your gear, prepare your car, and get through Tech Inspection before the Novice Walk-Thru. Remember, all loose items will need to be out of your car and your battery will need to be solidly secured-no bungee cords or other sillyness!

Don’t forget your Driver’s License!

REGISTRATION and ENTRY FEES
All competitors are encouraged to pre-register (versus “event morning” registration) at the official online registration site for 2009 Solo events: www.motorsportreg.com. This will aid our planning prior to the event.

Another reason to register online? You will save money!

Entry fees will be $45 for SCCA Members and $55 for SCCA Weekend Members. The Weekend Membership fee makes you an SCCA Weekend Member, will give you a $15 discount towards a full SCCA membership, a copy of “SportsCar” (our national magazine), a DVD about SCCA, and is valid for the all SCCA-sanctioned events held during that weekend.

So here’s the run down on entry fees:
- Wait and Register on Event Morning - $45 and $55

- Pre-Register Online AND Pay by midnight, on the Wednesday before event  - $35 and $45

NOTE: For the “Memorial Day Challenge Solo”  - this would be 05/20/09 11:59PM AKDT.

Your entry fee must be paid online (or mailed to SCCA, PO Box 220108, Anchorage, AK 99522 with a postmark not later than May 20th, 2009).
- Register Online and Pay at Event - $45 and $55
Register online and pay at the event. While you won’t save money, you will spend less time at Registration at the event and you you will be helping the Region in planning adequate room for tech and pit areas!

DRIVERS LICENSES and HELMETS
Competitors must present a valid driver’s license and sign the Event Waiver. If under 18-years-of-age, competitors will need a Minor Waiver signed by their parents (or legal guardians) and presented prior to competition. Contact the Region at 243-2122 to obtain a form prior to the event.

Helmets: Competitors must have helmets, and they must meet minimum Snell SA-95, K95, or M-95 ratings or newer. The Region will have limited sizes and quantities of “loaner helmets” at the event; there is a $10 charge for use during the event.

CLASSES, CAR PREPARATION AND MODIFICATIONS
The Region utilizes the SCCA Solo Rule Book classificiations (2009 pdf-file available at alaskascca.com) and also offers the Denali Class for those Region competitors who have been competing two years; Drivers must declare their intention to run Denali Class at their first event, or they will remain in the Open/Ladies Classes for the 2009 Championship Season.

Each competitor will be required to present their vehicle ready for inspection to the Tech Inspection Team immediately following Registration. Vehicles shall have mufflers, working seatbelts, and NO leaking fluids, in addition to the other items on the Tech Sheet.
